Mcleodganj

Dharamsala is divided into two main parts namely, upper and lower. While the lower part shows Indian elements, the upper part is essentially known as Mcleod Ganj. War Memorial
As soon as we enter Dharamsala, the war memorial reminds us of the post independence war heroes of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. These martyrs lost their lives in Indo China war of 1962, Indo-Pak wars of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and UN peace operations.

Dal Lake

Lush green tall deodar forests surround Dal Lake located near Dharamsala. One look at it and you will be convinced that it is amongst one of the most beautiful creations of God. It qualifies for a perfect quite and serene picnic spot for the locals.

Chamunda Devi
With famous Dhauladhar waterfalls as its backdrop, Chamunda Devi Temple is not only religiously important but also offers breathtaking views of the high mountains and the forests of Baner Khud, Lahala and Pathiar.

Kangra Art Museum
Situated in Kotwali Bazaar of Dharamsala, Kangra Art Gallery was inaugurated in 1990. It houses an impressive collection of arts, crafts, artifacts, costumes and other treasures, which can be traced to as far back as 5th century.

Library of Tibetan Works and Archives -Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA) is situated at McLeodganj town of Dharamsala. It was founded by the 14th Dalai Lama and serves as an institution to preserve and promote Tibetan culture.

Namgyal MonasterySonam Gyatso, the third Dalai Lama, founded Namgyal Monastery in the year 1575. During that time, it was situated at the Potala Palace in Tibet. Its purpose was to assist the Dalai Lama in his spiritual duties and public religious activities.

Norbulingka
InstituteSituated at a distance of 4 km from Dharamsala, Norbulinka Institute has a mission to preserve and promote. It is a picture of old rural Tibet with all its shady paths, wooden bridges, small streams and tiny water falls, along with wooden carvings, Tibetan Thangka paintings, Tibetan handicrafts and arts.

Kangra Fort
Kangra Fort was once the stronghold and seat of power of Katoch rulers, who ruled the land for over 2000 years. Today, it stands in ruins because of the devastating earthquake that hit the area in 1905.

Nurpur Fort
Located 66 km from Dharamsala and 24 km from Pathankot, Nurpur Fort was constructed by Raja Basu more than one thousand years ago. Initially, it was known as Dhameri.

Macleodganj is also known as "Little Lahasa" because of the presence of huge Tibetan population in this area. The residence of His Highness The Dalai Lama is in Macleodganj. Macleodganj is well connected by road and air to all the parts of the country.

By Road: Number of buses ply from all the major towns of Himachal, Punjab, Jammu, Haryana and Delhi to Dharamshala and Macleodganj.

From Delhi itself there are around 10 buses plying daily to Dharamshala and Macleodganj. Around 20 buses run between Chandigarh and Dharamshala daily. The roads are also very good and a drive to Macleodganj is also a delightful experience. Apart from HRTC Himachal Roadways private operators also offers daily services from Delhi to Dharamshala Mcleodganj.

By Air Flights from Delhi are available daily to Gaggal Airport Dharamshala. It is around 15 Kms from the Airport.

By Train
Pathankot is the nearest broad gauge Railway station about 85 Kms from Dharamshala. Toy trains also run from Pathankot to Jogindernagar via Kangra Chamunda Devi. Kangra Railway station is about 20 Kms and Chamunda mandir Railway Station is 22 kms from Dharamshala

From Delhi
By Road -- Take GT Karnal Road from DELHI - then Panipat - Karnal - Ambala - Chandigarh - Ropar - Nangal - Una - Mubarakpur - Dehra - Kangra - Gaggal - DHARAMSHALA.

Around 10 buses including deluxe and Volvos of Himachal Roadways, Haryana Roadways and DTC ply between Delhi and Dharamshala on daily basis.

By Train
Take any train heading towards Jammu and get down at Pathankot or Chakki Bank. From Pathankot either you can take a toy train to Kangra which is 20 kms from Dharamshala or a bus or a Taxi can be hired to Dharamshala(around 80 kms from Pathankot).


By Air
Daily flights from Delhi to Dharamshala are available. Spicejet and Air India offers daily flights

From Delhi
The distance between Dharamshala and Delhi is 500 Kms and it takes around 7-8 hours if you are going in a Taxi or your own vehicle.

The buses take around 10-12 hours to reach from Delhi to Dharamshala. The flight takes just 1 hour

Indru Nag Temple is situated near Chola Village in Dharamshala. Indru Nag is an ancient temple built by local villagers and is dedicated to Snake King (Nagaraja), the God of Snakes and the God of Rains (Indra Devta).

The villagers believe that Indru Nag has protected and will protect them from natural disasters and listen to their prayers.

Trek to Indru Nag Temple
Indru Nag Temple is around seven Kms from Dharamshala. You need to take Khanyara road from Dharamshala and then another road to Chola village.

Adventure loving people can go for a trek at this beautiful destination. The temple is located at the hill top and the panoramic view from the hill is enchanting and breathtaking. The cool breeze will give you altogether a different feeling and you feel like in Heaven at this place.

The entire city can be viewed from Indru Nag. On one side there are giant but beautiful Dhauladhar ranges and on the other side you can have a look at the lush green Shivalik ranges from here.
